Thrissur: In a major burglary near the city, 55 sovereigns of gold jewellery were stolen after breaking open the doors of a locked house in Koorkkenchery. The break-in occurred at the residence of Koorkkenchery native Hassan Ali.

Hassan Ali and his family had been in Ernakulam for the past week in connection with his son's surgery. He discovered the burglary upon returning to his Koorkkenchery home on Monday morning.

A joint investigation has been intensified by the Thrissur City Police Commissioner's squad and the Nedupuzha police. CCTV footage from the house captured a person scaling the compound wall around 1.30 am. Forensic experts and a dog squad have arrived at the scene and initiated inspections.
