Nagercoil: Police have arrested four men in connection with a major burglary at the residence of a YouTuber couple known for showcasing their jewellery and cash on social media platforms. Officers recovered 98 sovereigns of stolen gold ornaments following a swift multi-team investigation.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Pandi (30) from Srivaigundam, Murugan (28) from Mukkudal, Murugesan (38) from Alangulam and Thangapandi (39) from Thimmarajapuram.

 

Break-in followed Social Media displays

The main target of the heist, Madhumitha, frequently posted videos online displaying huge amounts of cash and gold kept at her home. The burglary occurred on the night of September 24 when Madhumitha and her husband, Vinod Kumar, a local businessman, had travelled to Tirunelveli.

Upon returning late at night, the couple discovered that intruders had broken open the rear door of the house and made off with 118 sovereigns of gold jewellery along with cash.

 

160 CCTV cameras screened in targeted manhunt

Following a complaint, the Rajakkamangalam police registered a case. On the directives of Superintendent of Police Anshul Nagar, a dedicated search operation was launched comprising seven special teams led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Prakash and Inspector Jayalakshmi.

Investigating officers scanned footage from approximately 160 CCTV cameras across the area, leading to the initial identification and arrest of Pandi and Murugan.

During custodial interrogation, the duo confessed to the crime and revealed the identities of their two accomplices, who were subsequently apprehended. Police confirmed that further investigation into the remaining stolen property is ongoing.
