Lulu Group announces new malls in Kozhikode, Kottayam; fish processing unit in Kochi


Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the Lulu mall in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday.

Thiruvananthapuram: The UAE-based Indian businessman and billionaire MA Yusuff Ali asserted that the Lulu Group will initiate more projects in Kerala as the state is industrial-friendly. While speaking to the media on the inauguration of the Lulu Mall in Thiruvananthapuram, he said that the company will build malls in Kozhikode and Kottayam also.

A fish processing unit will be set up in Kochi to procure fish from the fisherfolk and sell through the Lulu Malls abroad. Yusuff Ali informed that an assembling centre of electronic equipment will be set up in Thiruvananthapuram after the inception of Vizhinjam port and the location for the project has already been decided.

The construction of the mall in Thiruvananthapuram had halted for two years and it cost Rs 220 crores more for the building works. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the mall on Thursday. Opposition leader VD Satheesan, minister V Muraleedharan, Shashi Tharoor MP, ministers of state, guests from Gulf countries will also be present at the function.

The mall has an area of 20 lakhs square feet. Rs 2,000 was spent on the construction. The massive building is situated near the Technopark at Akkulam. Directly and indirectly, 15,000 persons are expected to work for the mall. 600 employees from the district are working here at present, the company said.

'Funtura' will entertain children and the zipline to roam around the mall will offer an adventurous time for the visitors. The parking area can hold 3000 cars at a time. Yusuff Ali added that the mall will bring about major developments in the region as in Kochi.
