Bengaluru: Karnataka police have registered a case against the BJP Mahila Morcha leader for propagating fake news in relation with the Kochi Lulu Mall flag row. The Jayanagara police statistician lodged a case against Tumkur local leader Shakuntala Nataraj.

The case was registered under IPC section 153 (B) for promoting disharmony between people. Shakuntala made a social media post claiming that the flag of Pakistan was placed above the Indian flag in Lulu mall as a part of the ongoing Cricket World Cup. The post also included a misleading photo. She tagged Karnataka Deputy CM, D.K Shivakumar and wrote on X (formerly twitter) that the Lulu mall in Bengaluru should be boycotted.

Police informed that they took up the case on their own once it became clear that the claims of the post were propagandist and fake and that it was an attempt to create communal disharmony. Earlier, Shakuntala was arrested for creating a derogatory post against CM Siddaramiah’s family.
