"My legs gave way": Meppadi landslide survivor Koodammal describes her miraculous escape after being caught on CCTV running from a roaring torrent of mud.

Kalladi (Kerala): "I couldn't comprehend what was happening. Seeing mud and water gushing towards us at lightning speed, we just ran. No matter how fast I ran, it felt like I wasn't moving anywhere. My legs completely gave way," recalled Koodammal, recovering from the sheer shock of surviving the catastrophic landslide in Meppadi near Wayanad.
Koodammal and her husband had walked down to the local bus stop to catch a bus to the bank. She noted that if they had stood at the bus shelter for just a few minutes longer, they would have been buried alive under the debris.
Chilling CCTV footage captured from a shop near the Meenakshi Bridge reveals the absolute scale of the disaster, showing torrents of mud and water crashing down and breaching the bridge. The video captures the couple running for their lives as a massive water tanker lorry is violently swept away by the roaring sludge right behind them. Miraculously, both Koodammal and her husband escaped without any major injuries.
