Palakkad: A purported letter from the Palakkad District Congress Committee suggesting K. Muraleedharan as the Congress candidate for the Palakkad by-election has emerged. The letter, from D.C.C. President A. Thankappan, has been addressed to the KPCC leadership.
The letter states that Muraleedharan should contest from Palakkad to defeat the BJP in the assembly by-election. It also mentions that this decision was made unanimously by the D.C.C. officials.
A portion of the two-page letter has been leaked, which states that Muraleedharan's candidacy will aid in defeating the BJP. Notably, the leaked section does not mention the name of Congress' official candidate Rahul Mamkootathil. This leak also comes at a time when Mamkootathil’s campaign in the constituency is progressing in full swing.
Meanwhile, opposition leader and Congress chieftain V.D. Satheeshan stated he is unaware of the letter. "That chapter is over. Many will propose candidates. The candidate will be decided from all of them. There was a need to provide opportunities for youth and women. That is what was considered," Satheeshan added.
