Kollam: KSRTC has decided to restructure services to reduce revenue loss. It has reportedly decided to reschedule or end services that earn less than Rs 30 per kilometre.

Inspectors who are in-charge of buses have been instructed to assess revenue. Daily revenue from newly launched services will also be taken into account.

Trips with low incomes will be rescheduled on a trial basis. If the loss persists, the services will either be scrapped or run as rural bus services (‘grama vandi’). To facilitate this reorganisation, discussions will be held with the representatives of local governing bodies. Concern exists that many services to rural areas will be put to a stop as panchayats are not ready to take up the financial responsibility of running rural bus services.
