Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has decided to offer free bus ride service to children from extremely poor families for meeting their educational purpose. Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses will offer free travel. The decision comes after a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday.
The meeting chaired for a project concerning the eradication of extreme poverty in the state has also come up with some major decisions, said the media release issued. They are:
- The government will ensure that Class 10 pass outs will have the option to pursue studies in the regions near their residence
- Higher education scholarships, stipend, and free food at the canteen will be provided
The press release also elaborated on the various measures taken by the government to eradicate poverty. The government aims to eradicate extreme poverty by 2025, and related activities will be rolled out in a phased manner, the release noted.
