Thrissur: KSRTC is in dire crisis as 1200 ordinary buses are expiring next month. These ordinary buses have completed 15 years and the government had extended by one more year. Along with this, next month over 1000 more buses will complete 15 years. Although the Kerala Government has entered into contract procedures to purchase 305 mini buses for city transport, it is not clear whether the government will put the matter on hold due to the financial issues. 

KSRTC has written a letter to the Finance Department stating that the services will be affected by the withdrawal of buses, and urged not to reduce the funds. It is expected that the government will allocate Rs 93 crore in the plan fund. The government has to pay the dues to the company that provided the buses earlier.

Due to lack of permission to purchase new buses, the tenure of 280 buses was extended by 8 years through a special order. Although the Center is ready to provide electric buses under the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, Kerala has not responded to it. 

There was a move to provide a guarantee by the state Finance Department to get e-buses of the Centre initially. However, then the proceedings dragged on.
