Thiruvananthapuram: Recent heavy rains have filled the KSEB (Kerala State Electricity Board) dams considerably, with 16 dams now at 64 percent of their storage capacity. This marks a massive increase from last year's 38 percent during the same period.

The current water levels in these dams are capable of generating 264.5 crore units of electricity. During the year of floods, in 2018-2019, the dams held enough water to generate 383.3 crore units.

Over the past 13 days up to Saturday, Idukki dam has seen its water levels rise by 11.5 percent, ie. 13.7 feet high.

The increase in water levels has also led to expanding hydropower generation, which currently stands at 3.81 crore units. This is intended to control the rapid filling of dams. During the same period in 2018-2019, 3.85 crore units were generated. This suggests that efforts to manage water levels are more stringent now than in the past.
