Thrissur: The Kerala State Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd (KSDP) is planning to produce medicines, including those that organ transplant patients take lifelong, on the market. The move by the public sector organisation will help patients, who have undergone organ transplants, to reduce the cost of treatment.

The central drugs controller department’s approval for medicine manufacturing was received in 2020. In the first phase, mycophenolate and azathioprine, which are medicines taken by patients who have undergone a kidney or liver transplant, will be brought to the market.

These medicines will be available at reduced rates compared to the current market price.

Chairman of the KSDP, CB Chandrababu, said that they were trying to introduce medicines to the market as soon as possible. Chandrababu added that this new step has been taken to bring medicines to people at a fair price. The sales and prices of medicines will be decided after discussing with the government, he said.
