Kozhikode: A 41-year-old woman admitted to Kozhikode Medical College with symptoms resembling that of Nipah has been confirmed to be free of the virus. The woman, originally from Kuttippuram, tested negative for Nipah following a swab test.

She had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Malappuram for approximately a week before being transferred to Kozhikode Medical College due to concerns about her condition. Initially suspected to be suffering from Nipah, the woman was placed in a special ward at the medical facility.

The patient, diagnosed with encephalitis, had been in critical condition since being admitted on March 31 with a severe headache.

Preliminary tests for Nipah were conducted and she was shifted to the medical college hospital for further care.
