
Kozhikode: In a joint night inspection conducted by Kerala Motor Vehicle Department (Kerala) and the state police in Kozhikode district, authorities found a total of 788 vehicles violating various traffic laws. The inspection, which took place from 7 p.m. on Tuesday to 3 a.m. on Wednesday, resulted in fines totalling Rs 19,33,700.
The operation covered Kozhikode city and extended to areas under the Nanmanda, Koduvalli, and Feroke Regional Transport Offices. The inspection was part of a larger effort to tighten vehicle monitoring in the wake of a tragic incident in Vellayil, where a youth lost his life while shooting a reel video on Tuesday.
Breakdown of violations
- High beam usage: 172 vehicles
- Modified vehicles: 46 vehicles
- Overloaded vehicles: 7 vehicles
- Vehicles without fitness/tax/permit: 26 vehicles
- Mobile phone usage while driving: 3 vehicles
- Driving without license: 39 vehicles
- Drunk: 1 vehicle
- Other violations: 486 vehicles
The inspection was led by Regional Transport Officer (RTO) P.A. Nazeer, Enforcement RTO Santhosh Kumar C.S., and Traffic North Assistant Commissioner Suresh Babu.
