Vadakara: Rs 551.04 crore has been spent for the employment guarantee programme in Kozhikode for the financial year 2021-22. It would be Rs 100 crore more compared to the money reserved for the programme last year. 60 per cent of the money has been dispensed as wages for the employees. The allotment for the employee guarantee programmes is more than the annual allocation for most of the block panchayats in the district.
Kozhikode district has set a record in total employment days and in the number of people who completed 100 days of employment this time. According to the data till 31st of March, 1.11 crore employment days were generated in 2021-22. It has been consecutively for two years that the working days are exceeding one crore in the district. 60,516 families had accomplished 100 working days in the last financial year. All the 12 block panchayats of the district have spent more compared to the previous year for the employment guarantee programme.
The 12 block panchayats except Vadakara block panchayat had set aside more funds for the employment guarantee programme compared to their total allotment. The same situation persists at the 61 grama panchayats out of the 70 in the district.
The largest sum has been dispensed at Perambra block. Out of Rs 89.54 crore allocated for the employment guarantee programme, Rs 57.52 crore was distributed for wages here. The cash dispensed through the programme turned as a relief for the employees under the programme during Covid times.
