Kozhikode: The tender proceedings for the comprehensive development of the Kozhikode railway station will begin in April 2023. According to the project, the railway station will be revamped in the model of airports with 110 metre-long terminals and six platforms.
The masterplan approved by the Railways was released during the meeting of Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw with MK Raghavan MP and Goa governor PS Sreedharan Pillai. The project expenditure is estimated between Rs 400 crore and Rs 500 crore.
The five-storeyed building will be constructed in Kerala’s indigenous architecture style. The ground floor and second floor will be opened for passengers, while the first floor will be reserved for offices. The other two floors will be allotted for commercial purposes.
Escalator facilities will be set up in all floors along with walkways on both ends of the platforms.
The renovation project of Kozhikode railway station was first announced along with the Chennai railway station redevelopment project during the period of UPA government. However, the project was delayed citing several executive and technical glitches.
