Kollam: Minister of Health, Veena George, expressed her sorrow over the death of a female doctor at Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital on Wednesday. The minister stated that the doctor was a house surgeon, and she was new to the field. The assailant attacked her when she fell down in fear, the minister said, quoting doctors of the hospital.
The minister said that the attack was an unfortunate incident. “The doctor was killed by a crime suspect who was brought to the hospital by police. The hospital had a police check post, and several health experts and the Chief Medical Officer were present at the scene,” said Veena George.

Meanwhile, Ganesh Kumar MLA criticised the minister's comments and questioned how a person could resist a drug addict's attack. He pointed out that the assailant had brutally attacked the doctor, overpowering and stabbing her multiple times.
Kottayam native Dr Vandana Das (23) was killed by a man who was brought to Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital for medical checkup. The accused Sandeep from Cherukarakkonam is a school teacher under suspension. The accused has attacked four other persons, including the cops. Police officers Alex, Baby Mohan, Manilal and Sandeep’s relative Binu also sustained injuries.
