Kannur: In the wake of the Kerala Government's action against prison officials for attempting to remit the convicts in the TP murder case, the ASI who took Vadakara MLA K K Rema's statement was transferred.

Kovallur ASI Sreejith was transferred to Wayanad after taking the statement from Rema, who is wife of slain RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan. This move is alleged to be part of an effort to provide relief to Trouser Manoj, an accused in the TP murder case.

The Opposition had earlier raised the issue in the Assembly. Action was taken against the policeman after it became controversial.

Earlier, the Chief Minister had intervened and suspended three officials for recommending remission of the convicts in the case. Kannur Central Jail Superintendent in-charge K S Sreejith, Assistant Superintendent (Grade One) B G Arun and Asst Prison Officer O V Raghunath were suspended from service pending investigation.

The police attempt was to give relief to Muhammad Shafi, Annan Sijith and T K Rajeesh- who were the fourth, fifth and sixth accused in the TP murder case. Overriding the court order, the government had sought a report for granting remission of punishment to 56 accused, including the trio, in various cases.

Amid this controversy, Rema’s statement was recorded in connection with the relaxation of the punishment of Trouser Manoj.

Action was taken against the officials after the leniency move came out through the media and was used politically by the Opposition.
