Kerala’s infant mortality rate drops to 5, lowest in India, below US levels.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s infant mortality rate has fallen to 5, state Health Minister Veena George announced on her official Facebook handle on Saturday, marking the lowest rate in India.
“India’s national average stands at 25, while the United States records 5.6,” the minister noted. “This shows that Kerala’s infant mortality rate is now lower than that of the US.”
The figures come from the recent Sample Registration System Statistical Report, which provides the most current national and state-level data on infant mortality.
Equality across rural and urban areas
Minister Veena George highlighted that, unlike other states, Kerala has achieved uniformly low mortality rates in both rural and urban areas. “This proves that healthcare services are equally accessible to all citizens, regardless of location,” she wrote.
She concluded by expressing gratitude to all who work tirelessly in delivering healthcare services and conducting effective public health initiatives.
