New Delhi: The Kerala Women's Commission has alleged that efforts are being made to obstruct the investigation based on statements received by the Hema Committee. The Commission's remarks were made in an affidavit filed with the Supreme Court. The Commission has also alleged that the petition filed by producer Sajimon Parayal against the High Court order calling for an investigation into sexual assault allegations was to obstruct the probe..
Earlier, the High Court observed that the investigation should be conducted while protecting the privacy of the victims and the accused. The Commission has informed the Supreme Court that the investigation in cases registered under the sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) does not violate the privacy of the victims and the accused.
The Commission also pointed out in the affidavit filed in the Supreme Court that Sajimon Parayal has no legal right to approach the Supreme Court against the investigation.
The commission alleges that Sajimon is trying to get a favourable order from the Supreme Court by misrepresenting the facts and not clarifying how this investigation affects him.
The state government informed the Supreme Court the other day that an investigation is underway to find the accused in 18 cases registered based on the statements received by the Hema Committee. The state government also claimed that the names of the accused in the other eight cases have been included in the FIRs.
The Special Investigation Team of Kerala Police has decided to investigate 40 incidents based on the statements received by the Hema Committee. Based on the instructions given by the State Police Chief, 26 of these cases have currently been registered.
The state government had informed the Supreme Court that even if the victims are not interested in proceeding with the case based on the statement given to the Hema Committee, the culprits cannot be left alone. Following this, the Women's Commission filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court in support of the investigation. The affidavit was filed through Advocate Parvathy Menon.
