Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has announced a ‘Women’s Carnival’, which aims to instill confidence in survivors of sexual abuse. Organised jointly by the Department of Women and Child Development (WCD) and the Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation (KSWDC), the carnival will be held for a week starting February 3 under the theme “Penchuvadukal karuthalode munnottu” (Women step forward with care).

The carnival, hosted in the state capital, will feature a special women’s conclave. Survivors who have openly spoken about abuse and shown courage in pursuing legal action will also participate.

The event will also include discussions on ways to address harassment, access legal assistance, and other related issues.

The initiative carries the message “The government stands with survivors.” With state assembly elections approaching, the aim is also to highlight the government’s proactive measures in handling cases of sexual abuse.

Analysts suggest that Rahul Mamkootathil’s case may provide political advantage during the elections.

Recently, CM Pinarayi Vijayan had reportedly expressed solidarity with the survivor in the sexual assault case involving Rahul Mamkoottathil by holding a cup inscribed with the words “Love you to the moon and back”.
