Nedumbassery: Australia's Northern Territory Minister Jinson Anto Charles, who won the general election, received a warm welcome at Cochin International Airport. Many people, including friends and relatives, gathered at the airport to greet Jinson, who is visiting Kerala for the first time since becoming a minister. Jinson arrived in Kochi at 2 am on Sunday.
Jinson, who was elected to the State Parliament with a large majority as a representative of the ruling Liberal Party from the Sanderson constituency in the Northern Territory Parliament of Australia, was assigned important portfolios by the party and appointed as a minister.
This marks the first time that an Indian-origin person has become a minister in Australia. Jinson, a native of Punnathani at Munnilav in Kottayam, arrived in Australia in 2012. He is the nephew of Pathanamthitta MP Anto Antony.
