Kerala is on a yellow alert through April 19 as temperatures are expected to soar to 40 degree Celsius in some districts.

Thiruvananthapuram: On Friday, the India Meteorological Department officially announced a yellow alert for several districts in Kerala. This warning is in response to a steady climb in temperatures and will stay in effect until April 19.
According to the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority, this yellow alert is a signal for the public to stay cautious as the state faces moderate heatwave conditions.
District-wise heat forecast
The latest data shows that Palakkad is expected to see the highest temperatures, reaching around 40 degree Celsius. Other areas like Kollam and Kottayam are likely to hit 39 degree Celsius and 38 degree Celsius. In most other districts, including Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, the mercury is predicted to reach 37 degree Celsius. The IMD has confirmed that these temperatures are 2 to 3 degree Celsius above normal for this time of year.
Prevailing weather conditions
Outside of the hilly regions, the entire state is expected to experience very "hot and humid weather conditions" during this period. The disaster management authority has advised people to be careful as the combination of high heat and moisture continues. The alert remains active through the weekend to ensure everyone is prepared for these intense summer conditions.
