Yellow alert issued in Thrissur, Malappuram and Wayanad as Kerala braces for heavy rainfall and strong winds on Thursday.

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in parts of Kerala on Thursday. In response, a yellow alert has been declared for three districts: Thrissur, Malappuram and Wayanad. Heavy rainfall is expected to range between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
A low-pressure system situated over northern Tamil Nadu, extending to Karnataka, northern Kerala, and Lakshadweep at an altitude of 1.5 km, is contributing to the intense rain. Meanwhile, the cyclone ‘Bardha’ over the Bay of Bengal has weakened, suggesting that rainfall intensity in Kerala may decrease over the coming days, according to the IMD.
Due to the heavy rainfall forecast, fishing activities along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast have been suspended. The IMD also warned of thunderstorms accompanying the rain.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has urged the public and government agencies to exercise extreme caution. People residing in low-lying areas, riverbanks, and landslide-prone hilly regions are advised to remain vigilant. Local authorities are expected to take precautionary measures, including relocating residents from high-risk areas. In situations with heavy rain warnings, residents are urged to follow official instructions and cooperate with relocation efforts to ensure safety.
