Palakkad: The Kerala Water Authority has clarified that it will not supply water from drinking water projects to the proposed liquor company in Elappully, Palakkad. The decision was outlined in a report submitted to the Kerala Water Resources Department by the Palakkad Superintending Engineer.

According to the report, the Water Authority has stated that the Industries Department will be responsible for deciding whether to provide water to the proposed liquor plant. The private company can instead source water from the 10 MLD (Million Litres per Day) supply allocated to KINFRA (Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation). The Water Authority made it clear that water from other ongoing drinking water projects in Elappully panchayat cannot be used for the project.

Clarification on water supply application

Earlier, the government order had suggested that the Water Authority had agreed to supply water for the liquor company's project. The private company had applied to the Water Authority, requesting certification for 500 kilolitres of water per day as part of a proposal to set up an ethanol manufacturing plant for a public sector petroleum company.

However, the report from the Water Authority has reiterated that there was no mention of a distillery in the company's application.
