Following a water contamination incident in the Bhagirathpura area, nearly 5,000 households were surveyed and chlorine dosing completed at all borewells, District Collector Shivam Verma said on Sunday.

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Authorities in Indore have stepped up emergency measures following a water contamination incident in the Bhagirathpura area, with nearly 5,000 households surveyed and chlorine dosing completed at all borewells, District Collector Shivam Verma said on Sunday.
Six people were confirmed dead due to vomiting and diarrhoea as of Saturday. The outbreak has raised serious concerns about drinking water safety in Madhya Pradesh’s commercial capital, which has been ranked India’s cleanest city for eight consecutive years.

Speaking to ANI, Verma said a ring survey had been carried out to assess the extent of the impact. Of the 65 people who reported symptoms during the survey, 15 were admitted to hospital. He added that 149 people were currently undergoing treatment, while 205 others had recovered and been discharged.
Verma said a specialised survey team had reached the area and shared preliminary findings. Water samples have been collected for testing, and further action will be taken once the laboratory reports are received.
The contamination incident has triggered widespread concern and criticism after it reportedly claimed several lives and affected numerous families in Bhagirathpura.

Earlier, Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav announced a citywide review of the water supply system in response to the crisis. He said a comprehensive survey would be conducted across Indore over the next seven days, with complaints related to leakages to be resolved within 48 hours.
“The team is continuously working in Bhagirathpura to ensure that people receive clean water regularly. The entire staff and team of the Indore Municipal Corporation are working among the people. Any complaints or requests are being addressed immediately," Bhargav told ANI.
Despite assurances from the authorities, several residents have expressed a lack of confidence in the tanker water being supplied by the municipal corporation. Many families have opted to purchase packaged drinking water and water cans from the market, citing safety concerns.
