Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday raised several questions regarding the college union elections held at Sree Kerala Varma College in Thrissur.

The court asked how NOTA votes came down to 18 from 19 during recounting. It also expressed doubt over the increase in invalid votes from 23 to 27.

The court asked why a core committee was constituted when the returning officer concerned could have decided on recounting. All these occurrences are raising doubts, the court remarked.

Justice TR Ravi has asked the returning officer concerned to produce the original tabular sheets of the chairman post election on Friday.

The court was considering the plea filed by KSU chairman candidate S Sreekuttan, seeking a fresh election to the chairman post.

KSU has been accusing rival SFI of subverting democracy. KSU alleges that SFI won by conducting a recounting at midnight as per instructions received from higher authorities.

In the first count, KSU candidate Sreekuttan, who is visually impaired, won by one vote. However, amidst KSU’s jubilation over the win, SFI demanded a recount. On the second count, SFI candidate Anirudhan won by three votes. With this, KSU boycotted the recount. However, when the results were declared at midnight, it stated that Anirudhan had won by 11 votes.

The court is likely to deliver the verdict today.
