Thiruvananthapuram: In a major stride towards modernising the public distribution system, ration shops in the state are being transformed into ‘K-Stores’.

These stores will ensure quality products at reasonable rates, claimed chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The first phase of this project witnessed the establishment of 108 K-Stores across the state. These stores will offer a wide range of services, including Supplyco Sabari products, cash transactions up to Rs 10,000 (including withdrawal from account), convenient public service centres (online transactions and applications), Milma products, and mini LPG cylinders.

To ensure seamless operations and maintain the integrity of distribution of foodgrain products, including doorstep delivery, a GPS tracking system has been implemented, the CM said.

Additionally, the government has allocated Rs 17 crore for the “scientific construction” of modernised godowns at Payyannur, Konni, and Vellarikundu.

In a phased manner, all ration shops throughout the state will be transformed into K-stores, aligning with the government's objective of strengthening the public distribution system, the CM stated.
