Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government is utilising the Ration Right Card of the 'One Country One Ration Card' initiative to count guest workers in the state.

The Ration Right Card, introduced by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Government of Kerala, serves as a channel for guest workers who face challenges in obtaining ration products in their own states. Government sources have now confirmed that the data collected through this Aadhaar-linked ration distribution will also contribute to the enumeration of guest workers.

Though the labour department estimates that around 31 lakh guest workers are living in the state, the government does not have proper data. Following a tragic incident involving the assault and demise of a young girl in Aluva, renewed efforts were initiated to compile accurate data.

A dedicated online portal, athidhi.lc.kerala.gov.in, has been established for the purpose of registering workers. So far, more than 25,000 workers have been registered on the site. Besides workers, contractors and employers can also register on the portal.

Now, a series of targeted registration camps will be conducted at locations frequented by guest workers to expand the reach of the Ration Right Card program. The Civil Supply Offices are responsible for the oversight and management of these activities.
