Thiruvananthapuram: Labour minister V Sivankutty has asked officials concerned to complete the registration of guest workers (migrant labourers) in Kerala on a war footing.

The labour department in a media release on Sunday said that it has initiated an intensive campaign to ensure that all guest workers in the state are registered under it.

According to the department, the apparent plan is that no guest worker is devoid of Athidhi Portal registration. The officials concerned are directed to take special attention.

The plan is to ramp up the registrations by organising drives at labour department offices, worksites, and labour camps.

Athidhi Portal is also equipped to have the registrations of employers and contractors dealing with guest workers.

The media release noted that the labour department may incorporate other government departments, and volunteers to complete the registration in a timebound manner.

Meanwhile, the labour department comes in the wake of the flak received by the state government over the criminal cases in which guest workers are accused.
