Thiruvananthapuram: Fees for government services are likely to increase soon as the Finance Department has given permission to other departments to increase fees for all types of services. The respective departments were also asked to issue orders in this regard before July 26. This is according to the Cabinet's decision to increase the revenue of the government to resolve the financial impasse.

It has been instructed not to increase the fees affecting students and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The respective departments can decide which fees and how much to increase. The additional burden will become clear only when the orders of the departments are issued. Any increase can be made within six months.

Public sector institutions and government-aided institutions will have to raise fees.

Generally proposals to increase tax and non-tax revenue will be announced in the budget. Among these non-taxable items, only court fees and some fees of the Motor Vehicle Department have been raised this time. The current hike, however, is decided by the Cabinet.

Charges likely to be raised
OP ticket, medical fee, licence fee, fee for certificates, charge for copying of documents, charge for police services, royalty for soil and rock mining

What cannot be hiked
Fees that have been increased in six months, the ones affecting students and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
