Kochi: Kerala is set to announce the state’s first memorial dedicated to posthumous organ donors, a move aimed at honouring individuals who have given the gift of life through organ donation
The memorial, named “Wave of Life,” is being installed under the leadership of the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (KSOTO), Heart Care Foundation, and GCDA. It will be located at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kaloor. The foundation stone will be laid on Monday at 1 PM by Kerala Health Minister Veena George.
Constructed under the state government’s Mrithasanjeevani program, the memorial will commemorate all individuals in Kerala who have donated organs. It is the first of its kind in Kerala and the second in India. The names of all organ donors under the program will be inscribed on the monument.
The memorial will also feature stories of recipients who have received a “second life” through organ transplants, scientific information about organ donation and transplant surgeries, and details about how to provide consent for organ donation.
Dr. Jose Chacko Periappuram, chairman of the Heart Care Foundation, said the memorial is being built with the goal of encouraging more people to pledge organ donation.
