Kannur: Kerala’s second Vande Bharat Express, running between Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru, is set for an upgrade. The existing eight-coach train (20631/20632), which currently runs via Alappuzha, will soon be transformed into a 20-coach train. This change will greatly increase the seating capacity, from 512 to 1336 seats.

The new 20-coach Vande Bharat train has already been rolled out from the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai and allocated to Southern Railway. The train will depart from Mangaluru at 6:25 am, reach Thiruvananthapuram at 3:05 pm, and then depart Thiruvananthapuram at 4:05 pm, returning to Mangaluru at 12:40 pm.

Since January 10, the 16-coach Vande Bharat train (20634/20633) from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod has already been upgraded to 20 coaches.

New pit line in Mangaluru

A new pit line (a washing line and open dumping pit at a railway station that’s used for cleaning and repairing trains) is under construction in Mangaluru to maintain the 20-coach trains. The pit line, which includes an overhead electric line, is expected to be completed within the next 10 days, ensuring smooth operation and maintenance for the upgraded trains.
