The IMD said that the severe cyclonic storm 'Murasu' continued over the central Bay of Bengal and adjoining southwestern Bay of Bengal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday (November 2) issued a rainfall forecast for the next five days, declaring yellow alerts in several districts of Kerala.
The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall in the districts under alert.
Yellow alert districts
The following districts have been placed under yellow alert:
November 2: Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
November 3: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
November 6: Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad.
The IMD defines heavy rainfall as rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours.
Cyclonic storm Murasu over Bay of Bengal
The IMD said that the severe cyclonic storm 'Murasu' continued over the central Bay of Bengal and adjoining southwestern Bay of Bengal.
The storm is likely to cross the coast as a severe cyclonic storm between 11.30 pm on Monday (November 2) and 4 am on Tuesday (November 3). It is expected to make landfall between Nellore and Narsapuram, near Ongole in southern Andhra Pradesh, with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph, gusting up to 120 kmph.
A cyclonic circulation persists over southern Kerala and adjoining areas. Another cyclonic circulation is present over the central eastern Arabian Sea, off the Karnataka and southern Maharashtra coasts.
The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall (7-11 cm within 24 hours) on November 2, 3 and 6.
Rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph is also likely between November 2 and 6.
Will schools and colleges remain closed on Tuesday?
The rain forecast has raised the possibility of holidays for schools and colleges in districts expected to receive heavy rainfall.
However, a yellow alert for heavy rainfall does not automatically mean a holiday. The decision to suspend classes on Tuesday (November 3) will be taken by the respective district collectors or other competent authorities after assessing local weather conditions.
Students and parents should rely only on official announcements from district administrations and educational institutions for information about holidays or changes to class schedules.
