Kochi: The Kerala Postal Circle has achieved the third position across India in terms of parcel revenue expansion, according to an announcement by a senior official on Tuesday.

Post-lockdown financial milestone
Speaking with journalists in Kochi, Chief Postmaster General P N Ranjit Kumar highlighted that the local postal circle has achieved double-digit growth for the first time since the pandemic-related lockdowns ended. This aligns with a broader national trend where India’s Department of Posts achieved a 16 per cent increase in total revenue during the 2025-26 fiscal year.

Mirroring this nationwide momentum, the Kerala Postal Circle recorded a 10 per cent increase in revenue. Building on this progress, the circle secured its third-place national ranking specifically for parcel revenue growth for the 2026-27 fiscal year during April 2026.

Launch of customer-centric express services

Unveiling a range of fresh consumer-focused programs, Kumar announced that the state postal circle has initiated pilot schemes centered on parcel collection stations, horticultural shipments, and same-day delivery options, alongside an overhaul of its Mail Service Network.

According to an official communique, India Post has rolled out the "Pick Post Express" service in the state. This offering enables patrons to pick up domestic Speed Post mail and packages at any hour of the day, seven days a week, from dedicated delivery offices located at primary mail sorting hubs.

Following a successful testing phase, the "Capital Express" network has fully launched as a commercial service. The initiative links major business hubs in Kerala directly to Thiruvananthapuram. Urgent mail sent from hubs like Kochi, Kottayam, and Kollam is guaranteed for same-day delivery in the capital city within 24 hours, successfully implementing a "D+1" logistics framework.

Dedicated logistics for agriculture and horticulture

To assist the local agricultural and nursery industries, the circle has also introduced "Green Express". This specialised premium distribution service is designed to move live vegetation, flora and seedlings within a tight window of one to two days.

Transition from rail to road networks

To bolster its next-day delivery promises, the Kerala Postal Circle is phasing out traditional rail-based mail transit in favor of custom-built Road Transport Networks (RTNs). Under this operational overhaul, 13 dedicated road routes are replacing eight legacy railway mail sections. This logistics migration is projected to slash transit overheads by 43 per cent, delivering annual operational savings of roughly ₹6 crore while simultaneously accelerating delivery schedules.
Universal insurance coverage in rural areas

Concurrently, the postal department is rolling out its "Surakshitha Gramam" initiative in collaboration with local Grama Panchayats. The outreach campaign aims to supply universal access to mail, banking, and insurance products across countryside locations, with a focus on achieving comprehensive Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) adoption in rural areas. The Kerala Postal Circle intends to bring all 941 Grama Panchayats under the umbrella of this campaign by August 31 this year.

The postal authorities have called upon corporate entities, local businesses, entrepreneurs, and the general public to actively utilize these modernized services, which aim to deliver faster, highly secure, and technologically advanced postal facilities.
