Thiruvananthapuram: Police are intensifying surveillance of social media platforms after mass cyberattacks targeted the woman whose complaint resulted in a sexual assault case against suspended Congress MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil, officials said on Sunday.

Police officials stated that the cyber operations wing will closely monitor online platforms as part of its routine cyber patrolling. The wing also oversees cyber police stations and the specialised Cyberdome unit.

Officials confirmed they had received information indicating that images of the complainant were being circulated and shared as part of the online abuse. A police official said they would instruct cyber police stations to register cases whenever complaints are received. The official added that cases would also be registered if social media accounts were found circulating pictures of the victim during routine cyber patrolling.

What is the Congress saying?

Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, V D Satheesan, said no cyberattacks had been conducted from official Congress handles. He said that if anyone linked to the Congress carried out such an attack, action would be taken. He also stated that no such act had taken place from the official cyber handle or by people associated with the party.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunny Joseph also stated that no party leaders were involved in any cyberattacks. He said action would be taken if any party workers were found engaging in such activities.
