Palakkad: The police have intensified efforts to arrest Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who is facing a sexual assault complaint. Police pointed out that filing an anticipatory bail plea is not a hurdle to arrest. The investigation team held a meeting the other day under the leadership of ADGP H Venkitesh. The ADGP has directed that Rahul be arrested immediately.
The police have launched a statewide hunt for Rahul. His relatives and friends are also under police surveillance. Meanwhile, based on suspicion that Rahul is hiding in Coimbatore, a police team is conducting investigation in Tamil Nadu as well.

All intelligence inputs related to this have been collected by the investigation team. A widespread search is being conducted in and around Coimbatore. The police team from Thiruvananthapuram investigating the sexual assault case reached Palakkad and collected evidence from the flat at Kunnathurmedu where Rahul had been staying.
Meanwhile, more details of the survivor’s statement against the MLA have come out. She stated that she was twice given high-dose abortion pills. The abortion was carried out in an unscientific manner. Her health worsened following heavy bleeding. As a result, she had to seek treatment at two hospitals, according to her statement. She revealed these details to the investigation team during the statement which was recorded yesterday. The abortion was done two months into the pregnancy. She added that the abortion pills were provided and consumed without any doctor’s prescription.
