New Delhi: Two nuns from Kerala, arrested in Chhattisgarh on charges of religious conversion and later released on bail, met BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar in Delhi on Saturday.

Sister Preethi Mary of Elavoor parish in Angamaly and Sister Vandana Francis of Udayagiri parish in Kannur visited Chandrasekhar’s residence along with a family member. This marks their first meeting with the BJP leader in Delhi since being granted bail.

BJP sources said the discussion would focus on the future course of legal action, including efforts to cancel the FIR, which contains serious charges. Church authorities have also expressed concern over the case.

The nuns were arrested at Durg railway station in Chhattisgarh while travelling with three girls, one of whom was accompanied by her brother. They told police the girls were being taken to church hospitals for work with parental consent and had valid identity documents. However, after Bajrang Dal activists confronted them and staged a protest, the railway police arrested the nuns and handed them over to local police.

The arrest triggered widespread protests in Kerala and Delhi, with both the Congress and the CPM raising the issue inside and outside Parliament. The nuns spent 9 days in jail before being granted bail, though the FIR still carries grave charges.
