Malappuram: Following the confirmation of Nipah virus case, Health Minister Veena George announced strict preventive measures. Since morning, proactive measures have been underway, and the State is fully prepared to tackle the situation.

According to the minister, 25 committees have been activated under government protocols to control Nipah. Contact tracing efforts began early in the morning, targeting 214 people on the primary contact list. Among them, 60 persons who had close contact are categorised as high-risk.

To accommodate potential cases, 30 isolation rooms have been set up at Manjeri Medical College and isolation wards have been arranged at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. A route map will be released, and the minister urged anyone who visited these locations to contact the control room.

Samples will be collected and tested from all high-risk individuals. The confirmed patient has been transferred to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. A 24-hour Nipah control room has been established for assistance. Symptoms of Nipah may include fever along with headache, dizziness, vomiting, cough, and difficulty breathing. Respiratory symptoms can increase the risk of transmission to others. Nipah disease is known for its progressive symptoms, and the risk of spreading may rise with the severity of the illness.

The minister emphasised the importance of wearing masks in public places throughout the district and advised against unnecessary hospital visits. Household members of those on the contact list should isolate themselves and avoid contact with others. Addressing concerns, the minister reassured the public, encouraging anyone in need of support to contact the control room for necessary psychological assistance.
