The suspense over who will become the next chief minister of Kerala is likely to end tomorrow, with the Congress indicating that a final decision has almost been reached after days of intense internal discussions and consultations among senior leaders.

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday said the party is expected to announce the name of Kerala’s next chief minister tomorrow.

His statement comes amid growing speculation within political circles over which senior leader will eventually be chosen to lead the new government in the state.

The development follows a key meeting between Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, where the leadership issue was discussed in detail.

Sources within the party suggest the Congress high command is attempting to strike a balance between organisational experience, electoral strategy and factional equations before finalising the top post.

Three senior leaders are currently seen as frontrunners in the race, KC Venugopal, VD Satheesan and Ramesh Chennithala. All three are considered influential figures within the state unit and enjoy significant support among party workers and legislators.

Congress MP Tariq Anwar defended the party’s ongoing consultations and said each of the three contenders is capable of handling the chief minister’s role effectively.

He added that the leadership is carefully evaluating who would be best suited to lead the government and the party in the coming years.

However, the delay in announcing the chief minister has allowed the BJP to attack the Congress.

BJP MP Brijmohan Agrawal criticised the party for taking too long to decide between securing a mandate from the people, calling the Congress a party plagued by indecision.

With political speculation intensifying, all eyes are now on tomorrow’s announcement, which is expected to finally end the uncertainty surrounding Kerala’s next chief minister.
