Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama calls for extended 3-day holidays for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha in Kerala to allow for proper religious observance and family time.

Kasaragod (Kerala): Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama has demanded a three-day official holiday for major Muslim festivals, saying the current single-day break for Eid al-Fitr (Cheriya Perunnal) and Eid al-Adha (Valiya Perunnal, Bakrid) is inadequate.
In a resolution passed at its annual conference, Samastha said the existing holidays do not allow families to reconnect or fully observe religious rituals. It urged the Kerala government to introduce a three-day holiday for both festivals, similar to the practice followed in Gulf countries.
The organisation said the demand aims to ensure proper celebration of Islamic festivals in Kerala and strengthen family and community ties. This comes after Samastha’s earlier call for the bifurcation of Malappuram district to create a new district.
