Wayanad: Kerala Ministers T Siddique and AP Anil Kumar have left for Wayanad to coordinate rescue operations following the landslide at a tunnel construction site.
Six injured persons are undergoing treatment at Dr. Moopen's Medical College, Meppadi. Hospital sources said one of them is in critical condition. The injured have been identified as Hira Suresh, Dileep, Sooraj, Sanjay Thapur, Rajneesh, and Tanmay Ghosh.
The landslide has also left several schoolchildren and teachers stranded at different locations after they were unable to return from their schools. Reports indicate that an anganwadi has been completely cut off, with children and teachers trapped inside. Residents of Kuppachi Colony and nearby areas are also reported to be stranded as access routes remain blocked.
According to Sahad, ward member of Chooralmala, three excavators (Hitachi machines) and around ten workers were present at the site just before the accident. The workers had noticed muddy water flowing down from the hill and were attempting to divert it when a large section of the hillside suddenly collapsed, triggering the landslide.
Rescue teams are continuing operations amid challenging weather and terrain conditions as efforts are underway to reach those stranded and search for anyone who may still be trapped.
