Thiruvananthapuram: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has taken a stern stance following allegations raised by the wife of Minister K B Ganesh Kumar, a move that has pushed the coalition into a crisis. The Chief Minister has held discussions with senior leaders, who reportedly advised that rather than offering protection or justifications, it would be better for Ganesh to step aside. Indications suggest the Chief Minister may soon ask the Minister to resign.

The situation has escalated further after the Minister’s wife stated she had informed the Chief Minister's daughter about the incidents. Bindu Menon, the wife of Minister Ganesh Kumar, has alleged that she caught the Minister in an unacceptable situation and possesses all the evidence. She also has noted that although police arrived after she called the control room, they left without assisting her.

Ganesh Kumar’s participation in the Cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday remains uncertain.

The CPI has also voiced its opinion that the Minister should be sidelined. CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam noted that a decision is expected on Tuesday. Two primary issues are causing a headache for the government: the allegation that Ganesh Kumar’s personal staff forcibly restrained his wife and attempted to snatch her phone, and the fact that a police team—called via an emergency helpline—arrived at the scene but left without taking action. These points strengthen the argument that ministerial power was abused and that a woman was subjected to violence within her home. If a legal case is registered, Ganesh’s resignation will become mandatory.

The government’s previous swift action in the Rahul Mamkootathil case—where a Special Investigation Team was formed before the complainant was even identified—has been noted as a contrast.

‘Five thousand affairs’

"I may have not just one, but five thousand affairs. That is a personal matter. No one should interfere in that," Ganesh Kumar later responded.
