Lucknow: A junior resident doctor from Kerala was found dead in his hostel room at Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College on Friday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Dr Abisho David (32), reportedly a native of Paloorkonam Parassala in Thiruvananthapuram, who was found in a hostel room (No. 25) under suspicious circumstances.

Abisho did not report for duty on Friday

A third-year PG student working as a junior resident doctor in the anesthesia department, his body was found by hospital staff on Friday morning when he did not report for duty.

The head of the Anesthesia department, Dr. Satish Kumar, sent a staff member to check on Dr. Abish, whereupon the hostel room door was discovered to be locked from inside, and repeated knocks and calls went unanswered.

Following this, Dr. Kumar arrived at the scene accompanied by hospital staff and eventually broke the door open, only to discover the doctor’s unresponsive body.

Authorities were promptly informed, after which Principal Dr. Ramkumar Jaiswal reached the hostel along with senior hostel and resident doctors.

Cause of death remains uncertain

According to a report by The Times of India, a syringe and multiple vials of vecuronium bromide, a potent neuromuscular-blocking agent, were found at the scene, hinting at possible drug overdose.

However, police denied rumours of a suicide note being found, as per media reports.

Gulriha police arrived at the scene and sent the body for a postmortem report upon informing Dr. Abisho’s family. Further, a forensic team has collected evidence from the room.

According to reports, Dr. Kumar stated that the cause of death remains uncertain, and only the postmortem report and forensic analysis will reveal the actual cause. He admitted that the situation appears suspicious and assured the media of their full cooperation with police and forensic teams.
