Kerala Local Body Elections 2025 sees a tight contest as LDF and UDF lead in seven district panchayats each during counting.

Thiruvananthapuram: In the 2025 Kerala local body elections, the United Democratic Front (UDF) made significant gains across the state, while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) suffered setbacks and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) recorded historic wins.
Looking at the district panchayat results, in Thiruvananthapuram, the LDF won 15 seats, while the UDF secured 13.
In Kollam, the LDF led with 17 seats, compared to the UDF’s 10, while the NDA claimed one seat.
In Pathanamthitta, the UDF dominated with 12 seats, leaving the LDF with five.
Alappuzha saw the LDF take 16 district panchayat seats, with the UDF winning eight.
In Kottayam, the UDF emerged stronger, winning 16 seats against the LDF’s seven.
The UDF also performed well in Idukki, securing 14 district panchayat seats, while the LDF managed only three.
Ernakulam (Kochi) witnessed a landslide for the UDF, which won 25 district panchayat seats, compared to the LDF’s three.
In Thrissur, the LDF led with 21 seats, while the UDF won nine.
Palakkad saw the LDF ahead with 19 seats, against the UDF’s 12.
In Malappuram, the UDF dominated with 32 seats, while the LDF managed only one in Maranchery.
In Kozhikode, the LDF led with 15 seats, while the UDF won 13.
Wayanad was dominated by the UDF, which secured 15 district panchayat seats, leaving the LDF with just two.
In Kannur, the LDF led with 18 seats, while the UDF managed seven.
Finally, in Kasaragod, the LDF took nine district panchayat seats, compared to the UDF’s eight.
The results underscore the UDF’s strong performance across Kerala, particularly in districts such as Malappuram, Idukki, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Wayanad, while the LDF retained influence in northern and central districts including Kannur, Palakkad and Alappuzha. The NDA also made historic inroads, notably in Thiruvananthapuram, where it captured the district corporation and several municipalities.
