Kozhikode: In a groundbreaking initiative, Kerala has introduced a mobile application that allows public to report traffic violations in real time. This project is the first of its kind in India, enabling citizens to take an active role in improving road safety.
The app, renewed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India with assistance from the National Informatics Centre (NIC), will be inaugurated by Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar on Friday. The application is designed to make it easy for people to report violations rather than simply getting frustrated by them.

Users can report traffic violations by uploading photos and videos directly through the app. Along with the visual evidence, GPS data will be included to pinpoint the exact location and time of the incident, making it easier for authorities to take action.
To use the app, individuals can download the 'NextGen mParivahan' application from the Play Store. Once installed, they should click on the 'Report Traffic Violation' button located in the 'Citizen Sentinel' section. Footage must be captured using the ‘Register Complaint’ feature of the app.
Transport Commissioner C.H. Nagaraju told Mathrubhumi that users can log important details such as the vehicle registration number, type of violation, location, date, and time of the incident. There is also a comment box for any additional information the user may wish to provide.
Once a complaint is submitted, it will be sent directly to the relevant authorities from the server in Delhi. In Kerala, complaints will be forwarded to the Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) in the area where the violation occurred. The enforcement officers are required to address the complaints within a specified timeframe.
The app is designed to protect the identity of those reporting violations. The officers reviewing the complaints will not have access to the identity of the complainants.
