Kochi: The Kerala High Court granted parole to Muhammad Nisham, who was convicted in the Chandrabose murder case in Kerala. Based on a petition filed by his wife, the High Court Division Bench granted 15 days parole for Nisham.
In the petition, Nisham’s wife had requested 30 days of parole, citing reasons including his mother’s medical treatment. However, the Single Bench of the High Court initially rejected the plea, based on a police report opposing the parole. Following this, an appeal was filed before the Division Bench, which accepted the request and granted parole.
Even though parole has been granted, the conditions will be decided by the prison department. Currently, Nisham is serving his sentence at Viyyur Central Jail. The High Court’s order granting parole will now be forwarded to the government by the prison authorities. Nisham has previously been granted parole and released from jail on different occasions.
Nisham, a businessman, was convicted for killing Chandrabose, a security guard, by ramming him with a car. The incident took place on 29 January 2015 at Sobha City in Thrissur. The attack occurred after Nisham allegedly became angry at Chandrabose for the delay in opening the gate. He first hit Chandrabose with his Hummer, causing him to fall, and then assaulted him again, resulting in his death.
In the Chandrabose murder case, the trial court sentenced Nisham to life imprisonment. He was given a total of 24 years in prison under various sections and fined ₹80.30 lakh. Out of the fine, ₹50 lakh was directed to be given to Chandrabose’s family. The High Court later upheld the trial court’s verdict. The state government had also approached the Supreme Court demanding a death sentence for Nisham.
