Kochi: The Kerala High Court has ruled that graduates are eligible to apply for last grade appointments at the state universities, rejecting a government appeal that sought to prevent them from doing so.
A division bench, consisting of Justice Anil K Narendran and Justice P G Ajithkumar, disposed of the government's appeal against a single bench order. The previous order had cancelled a provision that barred graduates from applying for last grade posts in universities.

Clarification on University appointments
The court clarified that the restriction on graduates applying for last grade posts in government departments does not apply to universities. It stated that a fresh notification should be issued for these appointments, and the examination should be conducted again with updated eligibility criteria.
The division bench also noted that there is no issue with unifying the eligibility criteria for last grade appointments across all universities. It also noted that the University regulations do not prohibit graduates from applying for these positions.
