
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Revenue Department has suspended 38 employees for illegally receiving welfare pensions, including four employees from the Survey and Land Records Department. A directive has been issued to recover the pension amounts along with an 18 percent interest.
The suspended employees include those in positions such as Office Assistant, Surveyor, and Draftsman in the Survey and Land Records Department. In the Revenue Department, employees in roles like UD Typist, Senior Grade Typist, Clerk, Village Assistant, LD Typist, Field Assistant, Office Attendant, and Part-time Sweeper were found to have received the illegal pensions. The amounts ranged between Rs 4,400 and Rs 53,400.

A review by the Finance Department revealed that a total of 1,458 employees across various departments had illegally received welfare pensions. Action has also been taken against 373 employees in the Health Department and six employees in the Soil Survey and Soil Conservation Department.
Recently, Shobha Chandra, a veterinary surgeon with the Directorate of Animal Husbandry in Kerala, addressed the controversy surrounding welfare pensions after being named in a list of employees accused of receiving undeserved pension payments. Shobha, who is differently-abled, clarified that she had requested the cancellation of the pension when she obtained a government job in 2018.
