Kerala High Court directs all universities to create rules to free college campuses from political influence, using Mahatma Gandhi University`s 2005 model.

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has directed all university syndicates in the state to frame comprehensive rules to free college campuses from political influence, using the regulations formulated by Mahatma Gandhi University in 2005 as a model.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice V M Syam Kumar issued the interim order while hearing a petition filed by L S Ajoy, a resident of Chengannur, seeking strict action to regulate campus politics.
The petition was filed in the backdrop of the murder of Abhimanyu, a student of Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, who was killed in a campus attack, raising concerns over student political violence and safety in higher education institutions.
The court directed universities to submit their drafted rules to the High Court and furnish copies to the Additional Advocate General. It also instructed that the state government be informed if any legislative amendments are required to implement the rules effectively.
The matter will be taken up for further consideration on March 4.
