Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) under the state government has proposed closure of loss-making Maveli Stores under it. The officials concerned have already initiated auditing to find the Maveli Stores in operation that are unfeasible to maintain.
The closure plan is among the proposals pushed by Supplyco to mitigate the financial crunch. The debt has been an issue for Supplyco for a long time. The state government owes Rs 1,500 crore to Supplyco. While allocation in the Kerala Budget 2024-25 was just Rs 10 crore.
The financial crisis mitigation proposals include the sale of petrol/ liquor and a halt on the sale of items(subsidised) procured via floating local tenders.
